My Happenings : Philippines

To the picture on the bottom, you can see most of the villagers. We, kayamm missionaries, went to Philippines to do whatever was needed to be done. We worked under 1000 missionary movement, an international organization which has a goal of sending out 1000 missionaries out to the world, ever year. The people on the bottom are from the village, also call burangay, called Talipusngo. We were sent there to help build a much needed church. Every Saturday, the church members would gather at a the elder's house for their Sabbath worship. The picture on the left shows Nicolas, my brother, preparing for the Sabbath School. Around 2o church members would attend. Though the church members all had seats, the church was still crowded. With its rapid growth, the elder's house would no longer be able to hold all the members. We worked to build a church, which was a three month project, to help facilitate the growth of the SDA movement in that one village. When we arrived at the mission site, the church was already in its second month of construction. We, the Kayamm missionaries, were give the task of "relocating" excess dirt and landscaping the parameters of the church, so that a road/parking lot can be cemented in. The problem with this task was that we didn't have any modern tools, besides a shovel and plastic bags. Along with that, the weather would cooperate. Since it was rainy season, the ground would be easy to dig up, but when we had to move it, we would struggle to lift the bags. When it wasn't raining, it was hot and sunny. With the rain still around, the humidity was unreal. I, the blogger, would sweat enough to fill my drinking cup 4 times over. After a long day's work, which was about 4-6 hours(all depended on the heat and rain), we'd return home, which was the two rented rooms on the second story of someone's house. There, we did most of our living. When we weren't working, we'd be resting there. Nic, was our cook. Though we had money, Nicolas cooked for us our two or three simple meals a day(sometimes we wouldn't eat dinner). Our meals were pretty much the same day to day. For breakfast, eggs and potatoes were served with rice. For lunch, rice and noodles. If dinner was attempted, it was always tuna fried rice. We were at our mission site for ~19 days. On July 20, we left. The night before, the villagers gave their thanks by throwing us a farewell party. From there we went to find our other Kayamm members, so that we can join them and move on to our new mission field, Korea.
