For the past several weeks, after the consort trip to Russia, I have been gone a on mission trip to both the Philippines and Korea. Both places presented their challenges. Some, mostly the ones in the Philippines, were more difficult than others. During the days i was on the field, i have kept a journal. Here i will share with you excerpts from it.
~July 2, 2009
"We arrived in the Philippines yesterday, the sight of the airport wasn't that bad, so my first impression was something along these lines, " eh... this ain't that bad." But as time when by, we went out of the downtown area and entered the edge of the city. I saw more and more run down houses, shacks, and things that resemble shelter. In sort, it was sad. It was filled with poverty. I remember seeing people selling water and snacks on the streets. I realized that selling things like that must be hard. It was hot... When i first came out of the airport the wave of heat hit me hard. it was kinda like Sarah's party. when you entered the room with the dance floor, you could feel the wall of humidity and heat. just imagine breathing that constantly... this is going to be miserable... "
That was pretty much my first reaction to the Philippines. Yeah Steven, John, Matt, and all my other PInoy friends. I didn't really like your country.
That same day, we had what i considered the only good meal i was going have in the Philippines.
The Jollibee's Experience
"I honestly thought that Jollibee's was a ghetto version of McDonald's. I order what they called a "B2." pretty much a burger, fries and a drink. American standard, this burger was pretty bomb. The sause made the burger so good and its cheap. Everything is cheap here!..." and it goes on saying how everything is cheap in the Philippines.
well Byes. Next time I'll share some of the mission work
